It’s Time To Change The Game

When life gives you a lemon, make lemonade! At some point, I got fed up with this lemonade business. There was an urgency to see a break in the ominous grey clouds that hang over me.

Why is it so hard to take the action needed to make your lot that much better? To be a game-changer, you have to will the needle to move. It means living life on the other side of fear…

Develop a mission that pushes you beyond self. When I focused my thinking outwards, my life took a very positive dimension. I now inspire and equip individuals, businesses and organizations to explore their true identity, unleash their leadership and build a transformational legacy.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than the ones you did do. So throw off the bow lines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” ~Mark Twain

Fear holds you back. The moment you appreciate its power and choose to overwhelm it, you discover your authenticity. The  magnanimous force being your real self will surprise you and also significantly influence your career, business and community.

Why is it so hard to take the action needed to make your lot that much better? It was because I lacked confidence in myself. I felt like life’s deck was against me. It was partially because of some negative experiences I had when growing up.

“Lack of confidence, sometimes alternating with unrealistic dreams of heroic success, often leads to procrastination, and many studies suggest that procrastinators are self-handicappers: rather than risk failure, they prefer to create conditions that make success impossible, a reflex that of course creates a vicious cycle.” ~James Surowiecki.

To change your game, you have to clearly define that change. That definition has its genesis in your values. Now, my personal manifesto defines the change I seek. As I slowly struggled to develop it in my mind, serious bouts of self-doubt plagued me. It took writing a painful story for my the manifesto to have any hope of seeing the light of day.

My Manifesto
I believe that stories bring connection, and that connection is the opposite of shame.

I believe in the power of forgiveness. It heals me from anger and bitterness and helps me launch into the world without reservation.

I fully embrace my bold vision in its totality to uplift people to build better communities.

Here is what I know: if my leadership remains authentic, I will inspire excellence in people and make a difference with my life.

I believe in the inherent potential people have, but I will consistently and diligently add to my knowledge to support the unlocking of that potential.

Money will not drive my existence, but in serving my family first, then my community. Riches will follow service and not the other way around.

My whole being is geared towards achieving all that constitutes this manifesto.

I will be a game-changer.

There is no passion to be found playing small… in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” ~Nelson Mandela

  1. Kimunya,

Thanks for this post. It has a Michael Hyatt kind of feel to the whole blog and article, which isn’t a bad thing. I really like the two quotes you choose they helped to advance your thoughts well. I have to agree with the second quote that procrastinators are self saboteurs. I suffered from that a while ago and had to realize I was getting in my own way. Any way good article I hope 2015 is a banner year for you and me both.

Life is hard, but God is good!

    Preach

    • Paul, you made my day! Great to hear you have realized how you can be your own enemy. I suffered from the same too, for about two decades! Mine was procrastinating to do something until the conditions were perfect. God is good, you and I will soldier on together!
